About the book:
This edited textbook aims to offer a timely and comprehensive exploration of critical infrastructure systems through the lens of systems theory and complexity science. Critical infrastructures are the systems, assets, networks, and facilities that are essential for the functioning of a society and its economy. They provide services so fundamental that their disruption or destruction would have serious consequences for national security, public health and safety, economic stability, or a nation's way of life. Arguably, critical infrastructures inherently operate in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment due to evolving threats (both man-made and otherwise) and dependencies.

The goal of this book is to provide a comprehensive collection of the latest research on methodologies, methods, tools, techniques, and strategies for addressing Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA) in the domain of critical infrastructures-such as energy, water and wastewater, transportation, information & communications technology (ICT), finance, food & agriculture, manufacturing, healthcare, government and emergency services, and defense and security. The ultimate aim is to guide the transformation of infrastructure systems from a fragile state to a more resilient one, drawing on the principles of systems theory and complexity science.

Submission Procedure:
An extended abstract is required from prospective authors by October 6, 20025. It should describe the proposed chapter's objective, scope, and structure. It should also include a title and a list of authors. It should not exceed 500 words. Authors of the accepted proposals will be notified by October 13, 2025. Any necessary feedback will also be provided at that time. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by February 2, 2026. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
