SEMS Teaching Excellence Award

Objectives: The SEMS Division aims to recognize and honor an individual who has significantly advanced the knowledge and practice of engineering and management systems in the realm of industrial engineering education. The award will be presented at the IISE Annual Conference & Expo.



Eligibility Criteria:

- The nominee must be a member of IISE and the SEMS division.

- The nominated course should be part of an industrial engineering or closely related program, emphasizing the integration of engineering and management systems.

- Course materials for which they are being nominated must have been developed and taught by the candidate at least twice over the past 5 years.

- Nominations can come from anywhere in the world, but course materials and nomination documents must be in English.



Nomination Package:

Nominations may be made by a faculty colleague or a student who has taken the course from the candidate.



The package must include:

- Table of contents (up to 2 pages).

- Letters of support from the nominator and two other individuals; at least one letter should come from a faculty member and one from a student who took the course.

- A course syllabus and samples of course materials (up to 20 pages).

- Curriculum vitae of the candidate.

- A reflective teaching statement and philosophy by the individual being nominated (1 page).

- Summary copies of teaching evaluations (including student comments highlighting the course's impact).



Evaluation Criteria:

- Leadership: Evidence of fostering leadership and excellence in the teaching of engineering and management system principles.

- Content Relevance: How well the course content caters to the current needs and advancements in the field of engineering and management systems.

- Applied Learning: Use of materials/case studies/projects to empower students to apply and implement the concepts taught.

- Innova􀆟on: Implementation of innovative teaching techniques and approaches.

- Student Satisfaction: Value demonstrated to students, departments, and the broader community through course evaluations and testimonials.



Deadlines:

- Nominations Submission: [Feb. 9, 2024]

- Winner Notification: [March 9, 2024]



Nomination Submission:

- All nomination packages should be submitted in PDF format in a single PDF file or a single compressed/zipped file that includes all materials to SEMS Division’s Teaching Award Directors, Amir Momenipour (momenipo at rose-hulman.edu), and Sandy Furterer (furterer6 at osu.edu).

- Questions about the award can be directed to Amir Momenipour (momenipo at rose-hulman.edu), Sandy Furterer (furterer6 at osu.edu), or Amy Straub at IISE (astraub at iise.org).



Recognition:

- The winner will receive a certificate of excellence at the SEMS meeting during the IISE Annual Conference.

- The winner will be recognized before the final day keynote address.

- Recognition on the SEMS webpage and in the SEMS newsletter.

- Feature in the IISE/Industrial Management magazine.
