The Head is responsible for the overall administration of the department, and this is a 12- month tenured position. The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in industrial engineering or a closely related field, must qualify for the rank of professor with tenure, and as such must have earned national recognition by a distinguished record of accomplishments in industrial engineering education and research. A record of scholarly publications in archival literature and funded research is required. Significant teaching experience and some direct industrial experiences are expected. Demonstrated success and leadership in obtaining and executing government and industrial research grants and contracts are expected. In addition, a baccalaureate in engineering is desirable.
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is one of the eight academic departments in the Bagley College of Engineering. The Department offers an ABET-accredited bachelor's program in Industrial Engineering as well as master's and doctoral degrees. Current department enrollment across the three locations is 296 undergraduate students, 63 master's students, and 84 doctoral students. The department is currently supported by ten tenured/tenure-track faculty, three teaching-track faculty, one instructor, and four staff. Research expenditures totaled approximately $9 million in 2023. Faculty members have developed a strong research program in the areas of ergonomics and human factors, advanced manufacturing and production systems, management systems engineering, and optimization and data informatics. Faculty in the department are active in many university research centers, including the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS), the Athlete Engineering Institute (AEI), and the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory, among others.
MSU is a comprehensive land-grant institution with approximately 23,150 students and about 1,500 faculty members. The university’s main campus is located in Starkville, Mississippi, a vibrant community approximately two hours from Jackson MS, Birmingham AL, and Memphis TN.
