The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
<https://cse.umn.edu/isye> at the University of Minnesota seeks applicants
for the position of Department Head.
The department currently has 15 full-time faculty members with
approximately 200 undergraduate and 70 graduate students. The department
has experienced significant growth over the past decade and offers a full
slate of undergraduate and graduate courses leading to Bachelors, Masters,
and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial and Systems Engineering. The department
also offers a B.S. degree in Data Science, joint with the Department of
Computer Science and Engineering, the School of Statistics, and the School
of Mathematics. Faculty in the department have core expertise in operations
research with emphasis in optimization, stochastics, and game theory and in
areas that intersect machine learning and the data sciences. Faculty pursue
a variety of applications with a particular focus on operations management
(supply chains, service systems, revenue management, and markets) and with
a growing footprint in the areas of transportation, healthcare, energy, and
the environment. The department supports multi-disciplinary research that
addresses important societal challenges.
Applicants should hold a doctorate in a field related to Industrial and
Systems Engineering and have an outstanding record in research, teaching,
and service commensurate with appointment as a tenured full professor. The
successful candidate should also possess strong leadership and management
abilities, an interest in promoting sponsored research programs and
mentoring faculty, and a deep commitment to undergraduate and graduate
education. The candidate should be able to work with diverse groups of
faculty, staff, students, administrators, alumni, and industry
representatives.
The head of the department reports directly to the Dean of the College of
Science and Engineering, and one term is nominally 5 years with the
possibility of renewal. The College is especially interested in qualified
candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or
service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community and who
will build collaborative ties with other departments within the College and
the University.
