Colleagues,
I hope this message finds you well. As I mentioned around this time last
year, the size of our department has almost tripled within the last decade
given an aggressive growth and retention plan. As some of you may have
already seen on LinkedIn
<https://www.linkedin.com/posts/mkhasawneh1975_the-ssie-department-at-binghamton-university-activity-7118305272791457793-Hikl?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop>,
I am writing to share that we are again hiring – this time for four (4) new
tenure-track faculty positions. We could use your assistance in
distributing this announcement. These positions have a start date of *Spring
or Fall 2024*.
These additional positions are a result of significant growth in our
research expenditures ($8.5-12 Million annually) and graduate program size.
With a current size of 33 tenured/tenure-track professors, we are extremely
excited to welcome so many more bright new minds in the areas of: 1) energy
systems, 2) health systems, 3) systems science, and 4) nanofabrication.
More details can be found below and attached.
FYI, in addition to the 4 positions referenced in this email, four more
positions (for Fall 2024) are expected to post (in a month or so) in the
following areas: energy storage (1), energy systems and policy (1),
flexible/additive/hybrid electronic systems (1), and systems engineering in
electronics and semiconductor manufacturing (1).
The Watson College of which we are part is also looking for a SUNY Empire
Innovation Associate Professor with a focus on AI/ML applied in addressing
societal problems. Additionally, the Watson Institute for Systems
Excellence (WISE), an institute of advanced studies at Binghamton
University, is also seeking a Research Scientist.
More information on all of these positions can be found here:
https://www.binghamton.edu/ssie/employment.html.
We would sincerely appreciate your assistance in circulating the ad below
(and attached) within your networks. Interested candidates can feel free to
contact me directly if they have any questions. I will also be on-site at
the upcoming INFORMS Annual Meeting in Phoenix and welcome candidates to
meet with me at booth 111. Thank you in advance for your assistance in
circulating this information to potential candidates.
Best,
Mohammad

Qualified applicants in other emerging areas of industrial and systems
engineering (ISE) and systems science (SS) may be considered.
- *The Assistant Professor – Energy Systems position* will explore
recent developments in green energy (wind and solar), zero-emission
buildings, green transportation (hydrogen fuel), smart grids, energy
storage and management systems (different types of batteries and
degradation modeling), battery manufacturing and recycling, and carbon
capture and sequestration, energy policy, and other emerging topics in the
energy engineering landscape.
- *The Assistant Professor – Health Systems position* will focus on
advanced topics in health systems engineering, including but not limited
to, the role of Industry 4.0 concepts in healthcare, health systems, and
wellness; remote sensing of data; wearable technologies and IoT; hospital
at home concepts; hospitals of the future; facial recognition and computer
vision; precision/personalized medicine; telemedicine/mobile health;
advanced machine learning/artificial intelligence; public health modeling;
and many other advanced topics.
