The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, is excited to invite qualified applicants to apply for three full-time, tenure-track, academic-year faculty positions beginning Fall 2024.


Two positions, with appointments at the Assistant Professor rank, are for teaching and research interests in data analytics, operations research, and/or simulation as applied to the field of industrial engineering with applications in areas such as healthcare or other service applications, manufacturing, government or non-profit organizations, and engineering education. As part of its strategic initiative, the IME department seeks faculty that can develop and disseminate innovative and effective engineering education practices that integrate social and technical disciplines. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Anticipated hiring range: $96,408 – $107,000 per year.  A Ph.D. in industrial engineering, systems engineering, or closely related field is required by the start of the appointment. Candidates must have a strong commitment to inclusive teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction as well as broad-based knowledge of industrial engineering.  An ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administration from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds is essential. One position, with appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, is for teaching and research interests in the area of advanced manufacturing systems as applied to the field of manufacturing engineering, including but not limited to areas such as: automation, process modeling and control, digital/additive manufacturing, smart manufacturing/Industry 4.0, robotics, process monitoring and quality, electronics packaging, semiconductor fabrication, the relationship between ethics and automation, and industrial informatics. Salary commensurate with education and experience of the individual selected. Anticipated hiring range for Assistant Professor: $96,408 – $107,000 per year, and for Associate Professor: $106,000 - $115,000.  A Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, electrical or computer engineering (with relevant industrial and manufacturing experience), or a closely related field is required by the start time of the appointment. Candidates must have a strong commitment to inclusive teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction as well as broad-based knowledge of industrial or manufacturing engineering.
