SUNY Empire Innovation Program (EIP) Full Professor in Energy Storage

The Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science at
Binghamton University invites applications for a tenured faculty position
at the Full professor level  with an expected start date of  Fall 2024 in
the area of energy storage. We are seeking a nationally recognized
outstanding researcher to be part of a growing team of clean energy
scientists, innovators and educators at Binghamton University. This
position will carry the title of SUNY Empire Innovation Professor, and is
supported in part by the State University of New York (SUNY)'s Empire
Innovation Program (EIP), a key initiative to recruit and retain
outstanding faculty with an established track record of research and
scholarship in areas of strategic priority.

Applications are invited from an exceptional researchers and  engineers
with an outstanding track record of funded research, scholarship, teaching
and service in one or more areas of  energy storage, including, applied
materials science, power electronics, power systems, battery/long duration
energy storage (including but not limited to hydrogen, zinc-ion, redox
flow), modeling, analysis and policy decision support for power  systems
and/or transportation systems, optimization of battery manufacturing
systems and supply chain, battery recycling and end-end battery life cycle
management systems.

The Watson College EIP professor in Energy Storage will augment existing
capabilities and expertise in energy storage, energy systems,
clean/renewable energy and energy efficient materials, devices, systems and
solutions at Binghamton University. Together with the  complementary EIP
full professor hire in the area of energy storage materials to be made at
the University's Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, the candidate hired
for this position will strengthen and grow cross-institutional
collaborations, and make significant contributions to Binghamton
university's Road Map Initiative in Smart Energy Transdisciplinary Area of
Excellence (

They will accelerate the translation of clean energy and storage
technologies research to commercially viable solutions leveraging the
University's Koffman Clean Energy Incubator (https://thekoffman.com/) and
the New Energy New York (https://newenergynewyork.com/) Programs.

A premier public R1 research institution, Binghamton University currently
generates over $64M in annual research expenditures and contributes over
$1.2 billion annually to the regional economy. The recent $113 million
research award from the Economic Development Agency (EDA) to the New Energy
New York initiative on battery technology innovation speaks to the
university's leadership on knowledge transfer and partnerships across
industrial and academia to advance technology development and innovation in
science and engineering. The university is home to the 2019 Nobel Laureate
Dr. Stanley Whittingham in the field of Chemistry and attracts outstanding
students and award-winning faculty,  many of whom are ranked in the top 2%
 of researchers in their respective fields.

The Thomas J Watson College of Engineering Binghamton University currently
enrolls over 3,600 students across its five departments (Biomedical
Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering, and Systems Science and Industrial Engineering) and
two specialized programs (Materials Science and Engineering, Engineering
Design Division).  The engineering school maintains close collaborations
with other colleges within the University, in particular the Harpur College
of Arts and Sciences that houses the Physics and Chemistry Departments. We

Requirements:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in engineering or a closely related
discipline. They must possess outstanding research credentials including
proven research leadership, strong record of scholarship as evidenced by
peer-reviewed publications and citations  and a strong record of securing
external funding. In addition, candidates must have demonstrated experience
as an effective instructor at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
