Dear Colleague,

The ISM 2023 Organization Committee welcomes you to submit your paper at the 5th International Conference on Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing (ISM 2023), a yearly forum fostering the smart culture and exploring the transformative impact of digital technologies characterizing the 4th industrial revolution across the full breadth of economic sectors. Following multiple requests from prospective authors, the full paper submission deadline has been extended to June 30th, 2023! We encourage authors who have completed their papers to finalize their submissions in Easychair<https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=ism2023> as soon as possible so that the review process can start.

Last year, we have had the pleasure of hearing the contribution of 300+ authoritative voices from the broad field of Industry 4.0 (participating either in-presence and online) presenting 201 accepted scientific papers from 50+ Countries, peer-reviewed by 150+ members of the international scientific committee from 30+ Countries, outstanding keynote talks from Prof. Lihui Wang, David Romero, Olga Battaia and Alois Ferscha, and presentations of R&D projects being conducted worldwide to achieve the vision of Smart Factories and a Smart Society. The conference was also the location of 20+ meetings with 40+ participants from 18 Countries in the B2B/B2S (Business to Business/Business to Science) Brokerage Event bringing research and science closer to the business and real-world industry as well as an International Doctoral Workshop.

Proceedings, Indexing and Post-conference Publication
ISM proceedings are published in Elsevier Procedia Computer Science, which is Open Access, available on ScienceDirect and indexed on SCOPUS. Post-conference publication opportunities on top-ranked international journals, such as Computers and Industrial Engineering, International Journal of Production Research, IET Collaborative Intelligent Manufacturing, Applied Sciences, Journal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, International Journal on Sustainable Engineering and International Journal of Mechatronics and Manufacturing Systems are also available for the authors of the best papers.

Best Student Paper Award
The Best Student Paper Award will be assigned by the ISM Best Paper Award Committee and selected among the top quality papers presented at ISM and having a student as corresponding author and presenter. The student will get a monetary prize and the opportunity to publish a paper on the Journal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing (MDPI).

International Doctoral Workshop
The International Doctoral Workshop @ISM aims to provide PhD students and PhD candidates in subjects falling under the umbrella of Industry 4.0 at any stage of their doctoral studies an opportunity to present their research projects, get in touch with the Industry 4.0 community and improve their technical/soft skills in an informal atmosphere. Venue
ISM 2023 will be held at the Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon, which was founded in 1972 as one of Portugal's first modern universities, with the central aim of studying labour and social dynamics in a rapidly changing world. Since its establishment, the university has expanded its disciplinary reach into four schools, including Iscte Business School.
