Visiting Professor in Systems Engineering
Position Description: The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking to fill a visiting faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level for its growing, dynamic Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering. Applications are solicited from candidates whose professional experience and interests are focused on Systems Engineering.
Responsibilities include teaching two or three classes per term at the graduate and undergraduate level and coordinating student industry projects. The successful candidate will be expected to secure funding (industry or otherwise) for practice-based projects for students. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and industry members from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Anticipated appointment date is September 1, 2022.
The Department: The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering (http://imse.utep.edu<http://imse.utep.edu/>) consists of several faculty members specializing in data analytics, systems engineering, applied artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, modeling & simulation, advanced quality engineering, and supply chain management. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Master of Science degrees in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Systems Engineering. The department participates in several interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs in the College of Engineering (COE) and is developing an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Industrial Systems Engineering. Current departmental enrollment includes 160 undergraduates and 170 graduate students. Research expenditures last year were nearly $2.5 million.
Over the past three years, the department has experienced the fastest research expenditures growth in the COE through major grants/contracts with DoEd, NSF, USDA, NIST, LMC-Aeronautics and the City of El Paso. The increase in research expenditures indicates the IMSE faculty commitment to research in the strategic COE areas of Sustainability, Manufacturing, Infrastructure Systems, and Energy Systems. The Department is closely affiliated with the Research Institute for Manufacturing and Engineering Systems (http://rimes.utep.edu/), which has strong relationships with industrial and government partners. Additionally, the Department has ongoing collaborations with local school districts, hospitals, international and national universities, and other UTEP departments. Excellent manufacturing and analytical research facilities exist within the College (http://engineering.utep.edu<http://engineering.utep.edu/>). The COE houses a class 100/1000 clean room for semiconductor, biomedical device, and MEMS fabrication; and an Additive Manufacturing or rapid prototyping systems lab. UTEP adds to the arts scene with an award-winning dinner theater, contemporary and student art galleries, and a natural history museum.
Qualifications: (1) an earned doctorate (not required, but is highly desired) in Industrial/Systems/Software Engineering preferably, or a closely related field at the time of appointment, (2) a record of significant industry experience or at least significant experience working with industry and ability to secure extramural funding (Required); and (3) a commitment to and potential for teaching excellence or a record of successful college or university teaching.
Salary: Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
