Fulton Schools of Engineering<https://engineering.asu.edu/> at Arizona State University<https://www.asu.edu/> (ASU) seeks multiple qualified applicants for engineering tenure-track or tenured faculty positions at all ranks with a focus in "Manufacturing Systems, Robotics, and Automation".  The School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks, the newest Fulton Schools of Engineering, seek applicants who complement our ability to solve Grand Challenge Problems as part of a transdisciplinary community of experts in advancing novel manufacturing processes, robotics, and artificial intelligence in manufacturing. We are seeking applicants who can contribute to strengthening MSN's faculty expertise in emerging manufacturing industries such as Microelectronics, Semiconductor, Aerospace/Astrospace, Battery and Biomedical Manufacturing. Areas of research interest include three main focus areas:

  *   Advanced Manufacturing Processes: Research areas of interest include:
     *   Nanomanufacturing for quantum computing
     *   Advanced microelectronic packaging and co-packaged silicon photonics
     *   Continuous processing of energy-relevant materials for battery, glass, water filtration, etc.
     *   Particulate processing including metals, ceramics, polymers, propellants, energetics and pharmaceuticals
     *   Hybrid manufacturing processes that may include microscale machining, multi-material additive manufacturing, laser-matter interactions, impact-based joining, advanced forming and welding, ceramic processing and others
     *   Multi-physics and multi-scale modeling for complex materials and manufacturing processes
     *   Sustainability in manufacturing, manufacturing for the circular economy, recycling, sorting and repurposing, design for disassembly and remanufacturing
  *   Cybermanufacturing Systems and Automation: Research areas of interest include:
     *   Digital Design & Manufacturing
     *   High-throughput and integrated process metrology
     *   Smart distributed sensors for factories
     *   Secure Manufacturing
     *   Robotic & autonomous manufacturing systems for biomanufacturing and space manufacturing
     *   Digital twin in automation, flexible and networked manufacturing
  *   Robotics, AI, and Cyber-physical Systems: Research areas include but are not limited to
     *   Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality for hybrid human-robot integration
     *   Interaction Learning for human/robot collaboration
     *   Social robotics
     *   Robotics and manufacturing in the industrial metaverse
     *   Robot kinematics, dynamics and controls, soft robotics, swarm robotics
     *   Security in Robotic Operation in Manufacturing
     *   Digital twin applications in robotics, wearable robots, etc.

Connections to robotics, computer science, industrial engineering, human systems engineering, and materials science are strongly encouraged.

We seek applicants who will contribute to our academic programs, promote transdisciplinary teaching and research, and help the university achieve its aspirations, including enabling student success, transforming society, valuing entrepreneurship, and conducting use-inspired research. Faculty members in the Fulton Schools are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, adopt effective pedagogical practices in the development and delivery of graduate and undergraduate courses, advise undergraduate and graduate student research and projects and undertake service activities.

NEI investments in the Fulton Schools of Engineering will grow our world-class faculty to accelerate research outcomes and broaden student access to our programs; establish Science and Technology Centers to foster the growth of new economy Industries and expand experiential learning and workforce training opportunities.

Appointments may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank commensurate with the candidate's experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2023. Although the tenure home may be in any of the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering, The School of Manufacturing Systems and Networks is currently the most involved in the interest of this research.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  *   Earned doctorate in engineering, computer science, or a related discipline by the time of appointment
  *   Demonstrated research capability
  *   Commitment to teaching excellence as appropriate to the candidate's rank
  *   Effective oral and written communication skills in English

Desired Qualifications:

  *   Demonstrated commitment to a collaborative, transdisciplinary approach to research and teaching
  *   Demonstrated success in conducting research, including an established track record publishing in academic journals, presenting at conferences, invited talks, etc.
  *   Demonstrated success, appropriate to the candidate's rank, in mentoring, training, supervising, and graduating students for both academic and industrial careers
  *   Demonstrated success, appropriate to the candidate's rank, in navigating the funding landscape, with prior success attracting and maintaining an autonomous research program
  *   Commitment to working in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment
