[Wang, Pingfeng]

A postdoctoral research associate position (PDRJ0622-ISE) is available jointly in the Department of Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering (ISE) and the Materials Research Laboratory (MRL) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in the research group of Prof. Pingfeng Wang. The postdoc will directly assist Prof. Wang in day to day group activities, participate several collaborative research projects on design optimization of structured materials for advanced environmental sensing and energy storage applications. Strong background in one or more of the areas related to computational modeling, multiphysics simulation, multifidelity surrogate modeling and data fusion, or physics-informed machine learning is preferred.



Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in a relevant field (including but not limited to manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, materials Science, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, or aerospace engineering). Ideal candidate would be a highly self-motivated individual who has a strong record of high-quality publications, is able to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment, and has excellent communication skills. Applicants with demonstrated experience in solving multiphysics problems for design optimization of engineering materials/systems using computational modeling tools (e.g. involving mechanical, electromagnetic or thermal interfaces) will be given preference. Strong programming background along with knowledge of machine learning could be a plus.



Timeline

The position is immediately available, and starting date will be no later than 7/1/2022 (subject to negotiation). Initial appointment would be for one year, and subsequent appointments are subject to performance and funding.
