Multiple Faculty Positions in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer

The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE in Troy, NY, announces a planned multi-year renewal of its faculty and mission. As part of this renewal, we seek applications for five open positions, including multiple tenure and tenure-track positions as well as multiple teaching-focused positions.

We are interested in building a department that contributes to the field of Industrial and Systems Engineering by bringing new ideas and making structural changes to create a more diverse and inclusive discipline and department.  We seek highly collaborative applicants with strong vision for innovative research and education.  Building on the department’s long tradition, we seek faculty who are uncovering knowledge and creating solutions to socially important problems, are collaborating across disciplines, and are integrating their innovations and collaborations into their classrooms.  We value applicants who are interested in the success of their students, their department, and their field, and whose research, teaching, and service complement and enhance one another.

For all open positions, candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent. We will review applications on a rolling basis with the potential to start as early as Spring 2022. The Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Endowed Chaired and Tenured Full Professorship in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer:
The successful candidate is expected to have an outstanding record of scholarship, educational leadership, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion, as well as national and international visibility. Area of research is open. Applicants with cross-cutting research interests are especially encouraged to apply, as are those whose work is helping to redefine the boundaries of the field of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Multiple Tenure-Track Positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level:

Multiple Positions at Rank of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Professor of Practice:

ISE invites applications to fill two full-time Lecturer positions. ISE lecturers participate in undergraduate curriculum instruction, student advising, and curriculum development focusing on preparing the industrial and systems engineer of the future. These are non-tenure-track faculty members who have experience in the research and practice of their profession and who have the ability and desire to teach in a collaborative environment in addition to engaging students through course instruction and advising.

ISE at Rensselaer has a rich history of addressing important societal challenges since 1933. The ISE Department has been highly interdisciplinary, with faculty employing methods from optimization, mathematics, statistics, cognitive science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to model, analyze, and solve complex decision-making problems in highly networked natural and social systems, with applications to critical infrastructure, homeland security, on-demand supply chains, and team performance. This work has been supported by numerous federal, state, and foundation awards. The ISE curricula draw directly on cutting-edge research results and pedagogical innovations, and benefit from ongoing collaborations with other Rensselaer departments, most recently in the department’s new institute-wide minor in Data Science and Engineering. In 2021, the ISE department graduated a total of 54 bachelors and 14 graduate (Masters + PhD) students and has growing enrollments.  ISE alumni are leading organizations in health care, finance, manufacturing, logistics, entertainment, defense, transportation, and consulting.
