Hello!

(Please share the information below with relevant undergraduate students.)

There is an exciting online program for undergraduates in tech and
engineering majors being offered this summer, that provides excellent
preparation to students for internships and early careers. During this
6-week, online, synchronous interactive program called the Leadership
Academy, students:

   - Develop professional skills including communication skills
   - Build their personal brand
   - Expand their professional networks by connecting with experienced
professionals from diverse backgrounds and industries.
   - Practice negotiation skills
   - Develop leadership competencies
   - Find internships and employment opportunities
   - Participate in year-long mentorship relationships with one or more
industry professionals during academic year 2021-22.

The core of the program involves teaching students critical skills to
thrive in college that they can then apply strategically to plan and launch
their early careers. The program is free for students.

While students in computer science and engineering majors learn technical
skills in college and university, they often don’t get sufficient exposure
to the culture of professional workplaces, its norms and expectations, or
learn professional skills to prepare them for early careers. That’s what
the Leadership Academy provides. Several of the graduates from last
summer’s Leadership Academy leveraged their learning to forge relationships
with visiting speakers and companies and successfully acquired internships
and jobs in tech and engineering companies. They also created a strong
sense of community and friendships with a cohort of like-minded
students from other colleges/universities who they can draw on for advice
and support. This new set of friends is vital for their career journey and
sense of belonging in technical careers.

Program details:

July 12 - August 20, 2021 online (synchronously) 3 afternoons a week
(Eastern Time) for a 3-hour block.

15-20 hours per week, including class time, class preparation, interactive
exercises, and invited speakers.

Free of cost for students; there will likely be scholarships available to
offset costs associated with attending the academy instead of working
during that time.

Eligibility: Undergraduate students, who have declared (or intend to
declare) majors in computer science, technology or engineering fields are
eligible. They are looking for students who are underrepresented in tech
and engineering: all women, men of color who are Black, Latinx, Native
American or Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA
students, and students with disabilities, among others. Students attending
college or university in any state are welcome to apply.

Applications are accepted NOW and will remain open until all seats are
filled. Decisions on acceptance will be made on a rolling basis beginning
May 21. The number of seats is limited. The application form is short.
