Description

The School of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for the Madeline Pfau Chair in the field of Systems Engineering Leadership, which complements the Charles Jones Chair in Data Science and Analytics (also inviting applications). Together, these two endowed chairs will form the core for a center of excellence seen as a strategic priority for the University. The Madeline Pfau Chair will develop new courses and conduct research in the field of systems engineering with an emphasis on developing leaders with the skills to enact organizational change and enable data-driven insights. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to develop relationships and generate research that translates novel analytical and engineering concepts into actions and results. Prior experience applying an interdisciplinary approach to solving the technical problems of an organization, from conception, to production, to the realization of valuable operations, is strongly recommended. The ideal candidate will have experience in both academia and industry leveraging systems engineering principles to enable and embed machine learning and AI solutions across complex organizational environments. The Pfau Chair is expected to develop several theoretical and applied courses within the UG and graduate curricula in ISE. It is very appropriate that these topics be considered in the context of the growing emphases of the school in Aerospace & Defense (Cyber Manufacturing) Systems and Health and Medical Systems designated strategic by the school.

We are seeking applicants who can bring insights from a well-established research program in Systems Engineering Leadership to build upon the School’s current strengths. Applicants with demonstrated expertise in both application and theory are sought. We seek a colleague who will collaborate with current and future faculty in ISE and faculty across the university to build a strong center of excellence that will merit national recognition. We encourage candidates who have interest in providing strong mentorship to junior faculty members and who will build a thriving research laboratory of graduate students and post-doctoral scholars. The candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching at all levels, and be passionate about developing new classes in emerging areas. We seek a candidate whose research, teaching, and service has prepared them to integrate and bolster OU’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and has given them the confidence to fully integrate students, faculty, staff, and others from a wide spectrum of backgrounds.

The Gallogly College of Engineering holds strong the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. We seek candidates who contribute to fostering an inclusive culture in all aspects of faculty responsibility, including within the classroom, the academic community, and within their professional commitments. Candidates should include in their cover letter a discussion of how they have or intend to promote the college’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline. The proposed chair is expected to bring significant recognition to the School of ISE, the Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE), and OU, through their scholarship, archival publications, successful research grants from federal and industry sources, and strong student and junior faculty mentorship. The Pfau Engineering Leadership Chair will be appointed at the rank of full professor.

Application Instructions

The application package should include: (i) single page cover letter; (ii) curriculum vitae; (iii) teaching and research statements, as well as an additional statement describing your professional experience and work in building inclusive and diverse teaching and research environments; and (iv) list of five references.
