Welcome to the fall edition of the Auburn University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Newsletter. We are proud to share our ongoing progress through research as well as student and department accomplishments.
Our online graduate programs have continued to grow. Spring semester online graduate enrollment is 138 students, a number which has more than doubled in the last three years, making ISE the largest graduate program in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. We continue to build relationships with industry partners to establish cohort partnerships to further grow our online graduate programs.
Department research expenditures have doubled in the last five years, reaching $4 million in 2021. Department proposals and awards in 2021 have also reached record highs. We are proud to currently have 20 ISE faculty members, the largest number in department history.
Distinguished alumni continue to make an impact throughout their careers. Apple CEO Tim Cook, a 1982 industrial and systems engineering graduate, was recently awarded the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers’ Captains of Industry Award.
Please read more about our latest achievements below and thank you for continuing to support the Auburn University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Patient care innovation being developed at Auburn<https://t.e2ma.net/click/pk0xog/xedmii/589hfy>
Healthcare providers across the country are overworked and burnout is setting in. An innovative idea is being developed at Auburn University in hopes of pushing the medical technology industry forward and lightening the load for nurses and patient care teams at inpatient facilities. Haneen Ali, an assistant professor in both industrial and systems engineering and health services administration, has published multiple articles about her work that could replace the call light systems employed by healthcare institutions across the country.

Opportunities are boundless for Auburn Camp War Eagle counselor, Army ROTC cadet<https://t.e2ma.net/click/pk0xog/xedmii/l1aify>
SeAnna Graddy’s first experience as an Auburn student was not quite like the experience of many students before her. Last summer, the Fayetteville, Ga., native attended Auburn’s freshman orientation, Camp War Eagle, or CWE, just like incoming freshmen had done for numerous years, except hers was completely virtual. The formerly two-day event, which included seeing all the sights on Auburn’s campus and meeting plenty of her new classmates, now consisted of Zoom sessions from her bedroom.

Jailin Sanders was determined to receive more than a top-notch education when he came to Auburn University. To develop a well-rounded college experience, the Bessemer native got involved in student organizations within a few weeks of arriving on the Plains. Sanders, a senior in industrial and systems engineering in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, is a member of Auburn’s chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, or NSBE, where he has served as assistant director of programs and programs chair. He currently serves as senior advisor to the programs chair.

Student Services Update
The Auburn University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering strives to consistently meet the needs of our students. Offering continuous support, advisement and resources throughout a student’s educational journey is a top priority.

Learn more about some of our newest initiatives below:

In-major orientation: At the beginning of fall and spring semester, we now offer an orientation for all undergraduate pre-engineering students qualified to move into major. This is an opportunity to welcome new students while offering them the chance to connect with other students as well as faculty and staff. Information includes curriculum details, opportunities for minors, graduate school information, research opportunities and more.

Study Abroad in Pamplona, Spain: Students have the opportunity to join members of the industrial and systems engineering faculty and staff for a five-week study abroad program in Pamplona, Spain, next summer. The program is available to all engineering students with a 2.25 GPA or higher. Students will work on a team project with a European company.

For more details about these programs or additional information about student services, contact Branden Farmer at blf0008 at auburn.edu<mailto:blf0008 at auburn.edu>.
