The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) at Johns Hopkins University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Optimization/Operations Research. Preference will be given to candidates whose research include data science and machine learning, and those with expertise in data-driven approaches.
Outstanding candidates at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels will be considered. Appointment at the rank of Professor may be considered for exceptional candidates. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Operations Research or related fields, and will be expected to establish a strong, independent, multidisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program. Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels is required.
There are tremendous opportunities for interactions across the university including all of the departments in the School of Engineering (including Computer Science), the Department of (Pure) Mathematics in the School of Arts & Sciences, the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Mathematical Institute for Data Science, as well as the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

Applications at the Assistant Professor level should also include at least three reference letters. Applications at the Associate or Full Professor levels should not include reference letters or names at this stage. Applications will be reviewed starting December 10, 2020 and will be accepted until the position is filled. The targeted start date for this appointment is July 1, 2021, but some flexibility is available to meet the successful candidate’s needs.
