IISE Data Analytics & Information Systems (DAIS) Division Teaching Award

The division now invites nominations for the "Data Analytics Teaching Award. The award will be presented at the IISE Annual Conference & Expo, ALL VIRTUAL, May 22-25, 2021.

Eligibility Criteria:

  *   The candidate should have offered one data analytics-related course at either undergraduate or graduate level within an industrial / systems engineering or related programs.
  *   The candidate should be a full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty and a member of IISE and DAIS.
  *   Course materials for which they are being recognized should have been developed and taught by the candidate at least twice.

Application Process:
The candidate must be nominated by the candidate's department chair or supervisor/director. The nomination package must consist of the following:

  *   Cover letter
  *   Curriculum Vitae of the candidate
  *   A one-page statement of teaching philosophy
  *   Nomination Letter from the department chair or program director
  *   Course syllabus, sample lecture notes, and other supporting items such as demonstration code or project.
  *   Summary copies of teaching evaluations for the course he/she is being recognized.
  *   Support letter from academic or industrial peer highlighting impacts of this course.

All supporting documents in the nomination package must be submitted in a single PDF format. The deadline for nominations is February 28, 2021. Please email the application to Dr. Sinan Onal, sonal at siue.edu<mailto:sonal at siue.edu>. The winner will be notified by March 31, 2021.

Evaluation Process:
The nominee will be evaluated on a five-point scale (1 = minimum, 5 = maximum) on the following (weighting in parentheses):

  *   Innovation in teaching content and delivery methods (40 percent).
  *   Broader impacts on data analytics teaching, including but not limited to publications, presentations, industrial collaborations, etc. (30 percent).
  *   Evaluations from students and peers (30 percent).

The award committee will invite senior faculty members to form a judging panel to evaluate the nomination documents. Only one award will be given to the best nominee. The award committee will send an email to notify all the nominees about the result, and the winner will be invited to attend the DAIS town hall meeting for recognition.

The winner will be recognized with a framed certificate at the DAIS town hall meeting.
