*Special Issue: Successes in Statistical Engineering across the DoD, NASA,
and Government*
The Military Operations Research seeks submissions for a special issue on
Successes in Statistical Engineering across the DoD, NASA, and Government.
The deadline for submission is March 1, 2020.
Statistical engineering is the discipline dedicated to the art and science
of solving complex problems that require data and data analysis. Solving
such problems requires the study of systematic integration of statistical
concepts, methods, and tools, often with other relevant disciplines, with
the objective of guiding more informed decision-making. Statistical
engineers apply the scientific method, in conjunction with systems thinking
and statistical thinking, within a sequential learning strategy.
While statistical engineering is not necessarily new, the codification of
the fundamental aspects of statistical engineering and the design of
research and educational initiatives around the concept are new and are
gaining traction in a wide range of disciplines. Statistical engineering
is and will continue to be important to DoD and to NASA, as well as any
government agency involved in any aspect of test and evaluation.
Collectively, these agencies deal with a myriad of challenges. This
special issue is focused on the use of statistical engineering within the
DoD, NASA, in particular, but any other governmental agency in general. In
particular, the issue seeks papers addressing the challenges faced, courses
of actions undertaken, and benefits accrued due to its adoption. While
this special issue is best suited for application papers, papers focused on
theory and methodological developments are also welcome.
All submissions will use ScholarOne Manuscript system,
