The Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences (FNPS), within the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences (CAFLS) at Clemson University, is seeking to fill a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level within the Packaging Science degree program.  The Packaging Science program at Clemson University offers B.S. and M.S. degrees and has maintained steady growth over the past 26 years.  The program consists of six regular faculty and three lecturers with teaching and research strengths in the areas of food packaging, packaging materials, packaging design, and transportation/distribution packaging.  Several state-of-the-art laboratories support the research, teaching, and service activities of this team.  Clemson University is a Land Grant university located on the shores of Lake Hartwell within view of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Upper Piedmont of South Carolina, USA. Duties and Responsibilities:
* This 9-month, tenure track position will involve a blend of teaching, research, and service responsibilities.  The successful candidate will build and lead a team dedicated to these activities in the area of packaged product supply chain and logistics and is expected to have an understanding of the logistics surrounding the world-wide movement of goods and basic knowledge of the packaging and distribution channels for shipment by truck, air, sea, and rail.
* Knowledge and experience related to retail, business-to-business, hazardous materials, e-commerce supply chains, and packaged product test standards will be desirable. The initial research area of this position is focused on the automotive supply chain.
* The desired successful candidate may have plant manufacturing experience in the transportation sector and demonstrable knowledge of rack and other returnable packaging design to include such areas as ergonomics, life cycle analysis of returnable packaging, and dunnage. Candidates may also have an understanding of business case development for internal sales of a package design, experience with supplier relations, and knowledge of SAP.
* The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and have demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment, and to provide leadership and guidance in a multidisciplinary program.

Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Ph.D. with research and/or work experience in Packaging Science, Industrial Engineering, Engineering, Supply Chain or Transportation/ Logistics.  Candidates with packaging experience is highly desired.  Preference will be given to candidates with accomplishments in both academic and industrial environments.
