Looking for a team project with real facility project data to use in your course?

The Material Handling Student Design Competition, now in its 23rd year, provides an opportunity for you to offer a five-week team project for your class. Students use real-world data to design a manufacturing / warehousing facility and apply what they have learned regarding material handling, warehousing, facility design and operations management.

The five-week window for students to work on the case may be chosen to fit your semester/quarter course schedule.  The competition is to be performed in teams of four students (or less) and up to two of the four can be graduate students.  Case description files may be downloaded, reviewed and distributed at any time, but competition entries must be submitted within eight weeks from the date that the Professor registers. Submissions will not be accepted after June 14, 2019 without prior approval by CICMHE. Registration will close April 19th, 8 weeks prior to the June 14th deadline.

Case Description
This case study focuses on a distribution facility expansion project that is needed to meet demand growth and changing markets.  The information contained in this case study has been developed to provide a real-world situation and will require students to address a range of issues associated with the design activity from data analysis to layout.

Do not register your school for the competition unless you are ready to distribute to your students. The submission clock will start immediately upon completion of your registration. A link to the case files will be included in your confirmation email.
