Job Description
Available August 17, 2018. Tenure-track position.
The College of Information Technology and Engineering at Marshall University invites applications for a new tenure-track Safety Technology faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to support the ASAC/ABET Accredited Bachelor of Science in Safety Technology degree program and the M.S. in Safety degree program in the Division of Applied Science and Technology.
The Division of Applied Science and Technology offers one undergraduate degree and three graduate degrees: a BS in Safety Technology, an MS in Safety, an MS in Environmental Science, and an MS in Technology Management. The Division is housed in the College of Information Technology and Engineering (CITE), a multi-disciplinary college with a wide range of faculty expertise and interests. . A new engineering lab facility was opened in the fall of 2008, and the new Arthur Weisberg Family Applied Engineering Complex mid-2015.
The successful candidate will also contribute to the University's general education curriculum, with its emphasis on a common First-Year Seminar and core curriculum courses that enhance student's critical thinking and the College's support of interdisciplinary programs of study.
The successful applicant will:
1.Teach undergraduate and graduate Safety Technology courses and laboratories.
2.Advise and mentor students.
3.Be actively engaged in research/scholarly, teaching, advising, professional development and service activities.
4.Initiate a vigorous research program and publish scholarship in refereed journals.
5.Apply for internal and external funding in support of teaching, research and professional service.
6.Supervise student research.
7.Participate in professional activities, including meetings, workshops and other relevant activities including establishing appropriate relationships with industry.
8.Participate in activities related to ASAC/ABET accreditation.
Rank and Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
1.An earned Ph.D. in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Engineering, Safety Engineering or a closely related field is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and have the ability and experience to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
2.Candidates should have the potential to develop funded research and possess an ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
3.Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills.
4.Demonstrated strong commitment to and potential for teaching excellence.
5.Demonstrated ability to develop and teach courses and laboratories.
Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Preferred Qualifications
1.An earned degree from an ABET accredited program.
2.Relevant industrial experience after doctorate.
3.Teaching experience at the college level
