Overview: The book will discuss how human systems engineering (inclusively
defined) can contribute to making communities, organizations, and
technologies more representative, equitable, egalitarian, and respectful.
This volume will draw from and appeal to a broad audience of researchers,
practitioners, professionals, and students in human factors and ergonomics
and related disciplines in psychology and engineering. We also aim to
include and speak to audiences in allied disciplines, such as community
development, criminal justice, education, and population health, to name a
few.

Chapter Types and Topics: We welcome different types of chapters, including
personal narratives (1000-1500 words), quantitative or qualitative research
(5000-6000 words), and theoretical and empirical reviews (7000-8000 words).
A variety of topics are appropriate, such as benefits and challenges in
diversity and inclusion, designing for special populations, in specific
settings, and methods for achieving diversity, inclusion, or social justice
outcomes.

Instructions for Chapter Proposals: Interested authors should first contact
the editors and submit a chapter proposal (2 pages max) via email (

Notification of decision -- February 8th, 2019
Submit revised chapter -- March 29th, 2019
Notification of final acceptance -- April 12th, 2019
Final copy editing/corrections -- May 17th, 2019
Manuscript to publisher -- June 15th, 2019
