Associate Professor and Center Director Position in Manufacturing
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at San
Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for a tenure‐track Associate Professor position in manufacturing to be
filled by August 2018. Qualified candidate will also serve as the Director of the Center for Advanced
Manufacturing and Lean Systems (CAMLS) (http://camls.utsa.edu/) and will be provided laboratory space
and equipment in the Manufacturing Systems and Automation (MSA) laboratory.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems
Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with strong emphasis in manufacturing. Applicants are sought in
the areas of smart manufacturing including intelligent systems, artificial intelligence applications, and data
analytics applications; digital manufacturing including 3D printing and additive manufacturing; cloudbased
manufacturing; cyber security in manufacturing; and in broader sense of manufacturing including
productivity, automation, economic impact, and industry engagement.
Expectations for this position include: (1) developing strong externally‐funded and internationally
recognized research programs; (2) creating a new vision for the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and
Lean Systems; (3) supervising graduate students; (4) teaching graduate classes related to manufacturing
and undergraduate classes in mechanical engineering; (5) working with others in transdisciplinary areas;
(6) reaching out to industry and community to build partnerships.
UTSA is located in San Antonio, Texas, which is a vibrant city of more than 1.6 million people, with
significant economic growth, numerous industrial establishments, and excellent school districts. The city

component in the University of Texas System. The Mechanical Engineering Department is housed within
the College of Engineering and is ABET accredited with programs at the bachelors, masters and PhD levels.
