Varzaneh Wins Best Track Paper Award
Mostafa G. Varzaneh, a graduate research assistant in the Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering won the Best Track Paper Award at the 2015 IEOM Conference-Orlando, September 10-11, for the paper "Optimal Hull and Mold Storage in a Lean Boat Manufacturing." Co-authors were Dr. Rupy Sawhney, ISE Professor, and Tron Dareing.

Dr. Rupy Sawhney awarded the Dr. Bell Award
Dr. Sawhney, Carla Arbogast & Lavanya Marella, as members of the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee, received the Dr. & Mrs. William & Budd Bell Award at the Community Transportation Association of America Conference. The award recognizes those working in community and public transportation to increase mobility and access for seniors, people with disabilities and anyone else who needs a ride.

This year 178 participants from around the world participated in the five-week experience learning about continuous improvement with emphasis on critical thinking for problem solving using principles of "lean". Students take classes at UT in the morning, then spend the afternoon working in teams on a real-world project with local companies that collaborate with the program. ISE Faculty Receive Best Paper Award at ISERC
Olufemi Omitaomu, Joint ORNL-UT ISE Associate Professor, along with Xueping Li, ISE Associate Professor,  and Shegchao Zhou, UT ISE Visiting Scholar, received the 2015 IIE ISERC Best Paper Award at the Honors an Awards Banquet on June 1, 2015 at the IIE Annual Conference for the ISERC Modeling and Simulation track paper "Optimization Based Data Mining Approach for Forecasting Energy Demand."
