POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT - ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING - LAMAR UNIVERSITY

Center for Advances in the Study of Port Management

 

Lamar University, a public, Carnegie Doctoral Research University, is
seeking outstanding scholars to join the faculty at a tenured/tenure-track
rank (at either the assistant or associate rank) commensurate with
Port/Terminal Management related experience and academic achievement in
the Department of Industrial Engineering beginning Spring, 2016. The
successful candidate will have a PhD in Industrial Engineering, or other
related disciplines with the capacity to contribute to the breath of topic
areas related to port/terminal management. Qualified candidates will have
demonstrated the ability to work at the leading edge of his/her research
area.  

 

Lamar University (LU), a member of the Texas State University System, has
experienced tremendous growth over the past decade, with enrollment
steadily increasing to more than 15,000. LU has been recognized nationally
for its general education core curriculum, leadership in online education,
selection as a member of the Honor Roll of the Chronicle of Higher
Education's "Great Colleges to Work For". Lamar University recently
received significant funding for the Center for Advances in the Study of
Port Management effective September 1, 2015. This Center is a
collaboration between Lamar's Department of Industrial Engineering and
College of Business.  

 

Candidates must have a demonstrated potential to develop/continue a strong
sponsored program of externally funded research, with results published in
refereed journals, proven teaching capabilities (particular interest is in
those candidates who have experience in digital learning such as online
and flipped classrooms) primarily at the graduate level, excellent
communication skills, ability to work effectively in teams, ability to
work with industry, successfully mentor graduate students, and provide
service to the university and profession. The department is focused on
serving key local industries including the port/terminal, the
maritime/offshore industry, and petrochemical industry. Ideal candidates
should have research and teaching interests in one of the following areas
of Port/Terminal Management, Port/Terminal Safety/Security (including
Cyber-Security), Port/Terminal Logistics, or other significant
Port/Terminal related education and experience. Prior significant research
endeavors, teaching, and experience in related fields to the Port/Terminal
management is required.  

 

The Department has research programs in Human Factors and Ergonomics,
Safety, Engineering Education, Logistics, Environmental Science, Design
and Manufacturing, Micro-manufacturing, Engineering Management,
Reliability, Risk, Resilience and Big Data. The Center for
Transportation/Ports and Waterways is housed in the Department. The
Department participants in the Gulf Coast Hazardous Substance Research
Center and the Texas Air Research Center. The Department is expecting to
announce a new Center in late 2015/early 2016; The Mariner Safety Center.
The Department offers an ABET accredited undergraduate industrial
engineering program as well as masters and doctoral programs.
