2015 Material Handling & Logistics
Student Days at ProMat

Date: March 25-26, 2015
Start Time: Day 1 - 9:00 am / Day 2 - 8:00 am
Location: ProMat at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois
Room:  S406-A (Vista Ballroom)

Faculty and students in engineering, business, and technical schools, ranging from high school to university level, are invited to an exclusive program to learn more about material handling, logistics, and the supply chain industry.

This program is sponsored by MHI's College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE) and the Technical Career Education Program (TCEP), in partnership with the Material Handling Education Foundation Inc. (MHEFI) and the Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA).

Students and faculty will have a unique opportunity to see the latest material handling and logistics solutions in action. Travel Grants
Travel grants will be provided to schools on a first-come, first-served basis for up to ten students and two faculty members per school. Additional students and faculty are welcome to attend, depending on space availability. Grants will be provided to schools who provide a written request (and pending availability) based on $0.15 / mile per person (for example roundtrip miles 1500 x $0.15 = $225/person) plus any parking fees.

Also, for anyone traveling to McCormick Place from over a 150 mile radius, overnight accommodations may be funded at $55 per student ($110 per faculty member). This rate only applies to the maximum of a one night stay. However, students and faculty who are confirmed to participate in the tours on Thursday March 26, 2015 are eligible for an additional night reimbursement at $55 per student ($110 per faculty) sponsored by MHEFI.

All travel grants will be paid directly to departments/schools after the show. 2015 Student Days Program

Wednesday, March 25, 2015 - Classroom Day
9:00 - 9:45 am - Registration
You must have completed your online registration and receive a badge in order to participate in the Student Days events. Stop by the ProMat  general registration area to pick up your badge and head over to Room S-406A (Vista Ballroom) at McCormick Place.

9:45 - 10:15 am - Introductions and Schedule Overview

10:15- 10:30 am - Introduction to MHL Roadmap by Gary Forger
Hear about the U.S. Roadmap for Material Handling and Logistics and how it impacts the future of the industry.

10:30 - 10:45 am- Preparation for Tour of ProMat Show Floor

10:45 am- 12:45 pm - Show Floor Tour - Open to all Student Days participants
Students and professors will be split into groups and take a guided tour of the show floor. Industry experts at selected show booths will be waiting to talk with you about the industry, solutions and career options.

10:45 am - 12:45 pm- TCEP Advisory Board Summit (Invitation Only) - Room: S405B
Selected advisors from technical high schools and community colleges will receive the latest update from the MHI education team, including current programs, processes, educational materials, certifications, etc.

12:45- 1:15 pm- Lunch for all Student Days Participants and Tour Guides

1:15 - 2:15 pm- Professional Development Keynote Explosion by Jeff Havens
Enjoy lunch with the other Student Days participants courtesy of MHI, CICMHE, TCEP, and MHEDA. While you eat, enjoy a special presentation by Jeff Havens, a former high school English teacher turned stand-up comedian and motivational speaker http://www.jeffhavens.com/meetjeff/cd-promo/

2:15-3:30 pm- MHL Roadmap - Interactive Activity and Wrap Up
High school, community college and university students will engage in small group sessions. During this time, participants will utilize the information gathered from the earlier presentation and show floor interaction with exhibitors.

4:00 - 5:30 pm- Networking and Careers Reception - Sponsored by Associated - Room: S103BC
University and community college students, along with faculty members, will be invited to attend this reception which will include industry professionals who may have an interest in hiring students. Classroom Day exhibitors, tour guides, MHEFI Board Members and scholarship donors are invited to participate in this event.




Thursday, March 26, 2015 - Tour Day
8:00 - 11:00 am   Offsite Tours- Open to University, Community College Students, and Faculty Members  - Sponsored by MHEFI
Participants will board ground transportation and depart from McCormick Place to see applications of state-of-the-art material handling and supply chain technologies at one of two local facilities. Note that students and faculty participating in the tours will receive a $20.00 lunch voucher that can be used at the various eateries on the show floor (except Mc Donald's and MHI Bistro) after returning to McCormick Place.

8:00 - 11:00 am   High School Activity - FIND WHAT'S NEXT .....
Technical high school students and educators will engage in an activity to FIND WHAT'S NEXT in real world applications within the supply chain industry.


Code of Conduct
The success of this program depends upon professional conduct by all who participate. This code of conduct shall be adhered to at all times. Violations of the code of conduct will result in forfeiture of travel reimbursements for the participating school, and may disqualify schools for participation in future events. Specific expectations of students and faculty members who participate include:

*         All participants should wear business casual clothing (no jeans, shorts, or T-Shirts) and comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes on both days.

*         No use of phones, headsets, earphones, tablets, or cameras at specified times.

*         Must be courteous and respectful at all times.

*         Faculty members must be present with students at all times.
