*Postdoctoral Position in Agent-based Modeling and Simulation*

The Grado Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering (ISE) at Virginia
Tech and the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (VTCRI) invite
applications for a postdoctoral associate in the area of *agent-based
modeling and simulation* with applications to *healthcare operations*
and *service
enterprise systems*. The initial one-year appointment can begin as early as
February 1, 2016, but could start as late as June 2016. The appointment may
be extended contingent upon research performance for another year.

The post-doc will be working with a multidisciplinary research team and
will be co-advised by principal investigators (PIs) Dr. Christian Wernz,
Assistant Professor in ISE, and Dr. Sarah Parker, Assistant Professor at
VTCRI. The successful applicant will work on two projects that share the
agent-based modeling and simulation methodology. For the service enterprise
systems project, the post-doc will develop a simulation to inform
management decisions for a technology service product. The industry sponsor
of this project is a multinational computer technology company. For the
healthcare project, the post-doc will develop a simulation to better
understand behavior of healthcare workers under conditions of work surge
and will build models to evaluate the consequences of different types of
leadership in clinical settings.

In addition to these two research projects, the post-doc will participate
in the development of funding proposals under the guidance of the two PIs
and will co-supervise undergraduate and graduate students. Further, the
post-doc is expected to co-author publications in healthcare and/or
engineering journals.

*Required qualifications:*
• Ph.D. in industrial / systems engineering, operations research,
computational social science, computer science, or related discipline with
expertise in agent-based modeling and simulation.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with prior
experience in writing scientific or technical articles.
• Working knowledge in statistics and statistical methods.

*Preferred qualifications:*
• Experience with simulation software AnyLogic.
• Experience in healthcare and/or computer technology service operations.

*To Apply:*
Please send a complete application package in a single PDF document
containing 1) a cover letter, 2) a complete CV, 3) a maximum 2-page
statement of your research interests, and 4) the names and full contact
