Job Description:

The Lead Engineer provides engineering and management consulting for ABF Freight on a wide variety of subjects. Within the ABF Freight Planning and Engineering department, the Lead Engineer will work in one of two areas: Network Planning and Design or Capacity and Demand Planning. Job functions of the Network Planning and Design Lead Engineer include developing optimization and simulation models for the analysis of ABF Freight's over-the-road LTL network, designing processes to improve service and/or reduce cost, evaluating transit time performance and velocity, researching new technologies and analyzing corporate processes. Job functions of the Capacity and Demand Planning Lead Engineer include analyzing relationships between company assets and current and projected business levels, creating models to provide internal guidance on capacity and demand trends, developing automated engineering tools for corporate and field level management, analyzing costing inputs and evaluating measurement systems.

The Lead Engineer will provide project management for large-scale corporate projects, subject matter expertise on policies and procedures and lead in the development and improvement of the ABF Freight network. The position offers a significant amount of upper-level management exposure as well as advancement opportunities within the Planning and Engineering department and company. There is a tremendous opportunity to make a bottom-line contribution to ABF Freight. Some travel is required.

Qualifications:

For the Lead Engineer position, a bachelor's degree in engineering, transportation logistics or other technical field is required. A graduate degree in Industrial Engineering or an MBA is preferred. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification is also preferred. Familiarity with freight loading and delivery concepts and LTL networks is preferred. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, SQL and project management skills are essential. Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills are necessary. Must have a positive attitude and enjoy working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.

All positions are located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, a medium-sized city situated in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains.
