2014 Call for Research Funding Proposals on Material Handling and Logistics
Three types of proposals are being solicited for material handling and logistics focused research projects to be conducted by academic institutions. MHI and the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE) have allocated up to $100,000 in 2014 to fund three types of research programs. The material handling and logistics industry represented by MHI seeks to develop the faculty of tomorrow by supporting the development of research careers today that focus on topics important to development of the industry. All types of proposals are due by August 15, 2014 with award notices anticipated by October 1, 2014.
To meet this objective, MHI/CICMHE provides a three-part research grant program to influence researchers’ work at multiple points in their research careers:
Type 1: Research Startup Grant
The purpose of the research Startup grant is to help new professors launch their research careers focused on the material handling and logistics field. Proposals are judged primarily on the quality of the proposer’s early career development plans and achievements.

Type 3: Research Partnership Grant
The purpose of this grant is to provide a source of matching funds to support the development and funding of large-scale material handling, logistics, and supply chain related research projects. These matching funds serve as leverage to help professors obtain funding for large research projects recognized as having the potential for high-value for and high-impact on the material handling, logistics, and supply chain community.

This three part program allows MHI/CICMHE to develop the careers of world-class material handling and logistics researchers and to insure that they initiate and perform high-value, high-impact research well aligned with the needs of the industry.
2014 Availability of Funds
MHI/CICMHE has allocated up to $100,000 in 2014 to fund these three types of research proposals. The lead institution and principal investigator for each type of grant must be in the United States or Canada.
