Please post the following post-doc opportunity. Thank you…

IAHC Post-doctoral Fellow - Surgical Systems
Clemson University is proud to announce a strategic hiring initiative in health services research as part of its 2020 Road Map. Post-doctoral fellows are being hired to enable the development of the Clemson University partnership with the Greenville Health System (GHS) Clinical University. Fellows will benefit from both Clemson University faculty mentors and clinical mentors with the Greenville Health System. The model is designed to enhance Clemson’s capacity in health–related research as well as the emerging health services research initiatives at GHS. Fellows will embed within GHS and develop an agenda of health research which is informed and supported by the GHS health delivery system. Research will fit within two primary strategic areas: comparing the effectiveness of interventions to inform policy, and investigating patient-centered models of care. Fellows will be affiliated with the GHS / CU Institute for the Advancement of Healthcare (IAHC).
One post-doctoral fellow will be hired to conduct research that focuses on the surgical environment, including case scheduling, pre-admission testing, and all day-of-surgery processes (preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative). Areas of expertise should include health operations management and operations research. The fellow will be responsible for analyzing relevant data sets used by GHS to obtain insight about the management of what is commonly called Perioperative Services, as well as to understand how information technology can be used to improve any component of the surgical services being provided to the patient. The research is to be conducted with GHS staff in order to improve quality and reduce costs by creating innovations within Perioperative Services. The evaluation methods used may include process analysis methods as well as deterministic and stochastic analytical models or simulations. An important outcome will be identification of changes that will potentially improve patient safety, reduce costs and increase capacity.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in health services research, behavioral sciences, health professions, business analytics, industrial engineering, operations management or operations research. Interested applicants should submit a current curriculum vitae and a minimum of two references with full contact information. Electronic submissions (PDF files) are preferred, but applications and nominations can also be mailed to Dr. Kevin Taaffe at taaffe at clemson.edu<mailto:taaffe at clemson.edu>. Application materials must be received by December 1, 2013 to receive full consideration, although the search will remain open until the position is filled.
Presently, Clemson is ranked 21st among national public universities by U.S. News & World Report research university with a strong commitment to teaching and student success.
