The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute seeks qualified applicants for tenured and tenure track faculty openings at
all levels (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) for fall 2014.
At minimum, candidates for Assistant Professor must have a Ph.D. or foreign degree
equivalent in Industrial and Systems Engineering or a closely related field, along
with the ability to demonstrate, through their records of accomplishments, promise of
future distinction in scholarship and education. Candidates for Associate Professor
must meet the educational requirements of the Assistant Professor, and also must
demonstrate a record of the following accomplishments achieved over a minimum of three
(3) years of professional academic experience. Accomplishments include: an emerging
national and/or international reputation; high quality educational activities
including teaching and advising; a significant level of service to the department, the
Institute, and the profession. To be considered for an appointment as Professor,
candidates must be eligible for tenure, and meet the educational requirements of the
Assistant Professor. Candidates must demonstrate having achieved the following in a
minimum of at least seven (7) years of professional academic experience: academic
leadership; a nationally or internationally recognized record of excellence in
scholarship; a sustained level of high quality in educational activities that go
beyond teaching and advising; and a sustained level of service to the department, the
Institute, and the profession.
Successful candidates will be expected to develop outstanding funded research programs
that build on the department’s core intellectual strengths in network
optimization/analysis and advanced manufacturing. Consistent with the Rensselaer Plan,
the School of Engineering Performance Plan, and the Department’s Strategic Plan, an
emphasis on one or more of the department’s existing research themes in cognitive and
social networks, adaptive supply chains, and emergent decision systems is highly
desired. A strong record of outstanding sponsored research and collaborative research
projects is required of applicants for senior positions.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is a private, research-oriented university in Troy,
New York. The School of Engineering (http://www.eng.rpi.edu) has approximately 160
faculty and 2800 undergraduates. The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
(http://www.ise.rpi.edu) has 12 faculty, 160 undergraduates and 10 Ph.D. students.
