The Center for Research and Innovation in Systems Safety (CRISS), Vanderbilt University, has an opening for a post-doctoral researcher in healthcare human factors and usability. Please see details below and in the attached announcement.
Position details:
* Funded 12-month appointment with opportunity for extension. Start date negotiable.
Responsibilities:
* Work on independent and collaborative health care human factors projects under the mentorship of Matthew B. Weinger, MD, Rich Holden, PhD, and other leading healthcare human factors faculty.
* Apply multiple field and laboratory methods, including survey design and analysis, structured and unstructured ethnographic observations, interviewing, intervention research, user interface design, and usability testing.
* Analyze quantitative and qualitative data and present findings internally and externally.
* Author/co-author review and research manuscripts and work on grant applications.
* Develop and carry out independent research and design projects.
Requirements:
* PhD (must be completed before start date) in a field associated with Human Factors/Ergonomics/Usability, including industrial/systems engineering, psychology, computer science, and human-computer interaction. Candidates without a PhD will be considered if they have substantial relevant work experience.
* Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary research team and deliver timely outcomes.
* Preference will be given to candidates who have experience and training in:
o Qualitative and quantitative field research methods.
o Design/development of clinician- or patient-facing health information technology.
o User-centered design, human-computer interaction, and usability testing methods.

CRISS is a Vanderbilt University-affiliated multi-disciplinary center specializing in healthcare human factors, usability, human-computer interaction, health IT, medical devices, patient safety, and other types of applied research and design. CRISS faculty have broad practical and research experience in numerous clinical settings and access to inpatient and outpatient healthcare facilities within Vanderbilt, middle Tennessee, and worldwide. CRISS resources include administrative and research assistants, grants management, statistical support, interaction design, software development, an in-house usability laboratory and 11,000 ft2 high-fidelity simulation center, audiovisual recording and analysis, etc. The Vanderbilt University Medical Center provides an excellent "real world laboratory" for healthcare research and numerous in-house information technology development and evaluation projects. Additionally, Vanderbilt University has a strong and active post-doctoral research community. The fellow would be eligible for training, funding, and other opportunities outside CRISS.
