Call for Research Funding Proposals on Material Handling and Logistics
Proposals are being solicited for material handling and logistics focused research projects to be conducted by academic institutions. MHI, through its commitment to the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE), is dedicated to the support of material handling and logistics research and teaching. The material handling and logistics industry represented by MHI seeks to develop the faculty of tomorrow by supporting the development of research careers today that focus on topics important to development of the industry.
To meet this objective, MHI/CICMHE provides a three-part research grant program to influence researchers' work at multiple decision points in their research careers:
Type 1: Research Startup Grant<http://www.mhi.org/downloads/learning/cicmhe/funding/MHI-CICMHE_ResearchFunding_Startup_Guidelines.pdf>
The purpose of the research Startup grant is to help new professors launch their research careers focused on the material handling and logistics field. Proposals are judged primarily on the quality of the proposer's early career development plans and achievements. Proposals are due by May 31st, 2013. MHI/CICMHE expects to announce awards by July 17, 2013.
Type 2: Research Spark Grant<http://www.mhi.org/downloads/learning/cicmhe/funding/MHI-CICMHE_ResearchFunding_Spark_Guidelines.pdf>
The MHI Spark Grant program is targeting professors having a novel high-value research idea with potential high-impact to the material handling & facility logistics community. Proposals are due no later than June 30, 2013. MHI/CICMHE intends to provide award notifications no later than August 31, 2013.
Type 3: Research Partnership Grant<http://www.mhi.org/downloads/learning/cicmhe/funding/MHI-CICMHE_ResearchFunding_Partnership_Guidelines.pdf>
The purpose of this grant is to provide a source of matching funds to support the development and funding of large-scale material handling, logistics, and supply chain related research projects. These matching funds serve as leverage to help professors obtain funding for large research projects recognized as having the potential for high-value for and high-impact on the material handling, logistics, and supply chain community. There are no specific due dates to allow the program to meet the needs of researchers as they pursue funding with a variety of primary funding organizations on a variety of timelines.
This three part program allows MHI/CICMHE to develop the careers of world-class material handling and logistics researchers and to insure that they initiate and perform high-value, high-impact research well aligned with the needs of the industry.
2013 Availability of Funds
MHI/CICMHE has allocated up to $100,000 in 2013 to fund research proposals. The lead institution and principal investigator for each type of grant must be in the United States or Canada. More information on the MHI/CICMHE research funding program may be found at www.MHI.org/CICMHE<http://www.MHI.org/CICMHE>.
