Dear colleagues,

The Process Industries Division of the Institute of Industrial Engineers
(IIE) is sponsoring the Process Industries Track at the 2012 Industrial
and Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC). The ISERC is the
new name for the Industrial Engineering Research Conference (IERC). The
ISERC, which is part of the IIE Annual Conference and Expo, is a forum
for exchanging knowledge and discoveries in the industrial and systems
engineering research community.

As track chairs of the Process Industries Track, we would like to
encourage you to contribute to the conference by submitting an abstract.
Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their work in
ISERC sessions. Each session will be 75 minutes and have 3 or 4
presenters.

Abstracts are welcome in the area of all industrial engineering related
topics that are applicable to process industries.

What are the Process Industries?

The process industries are those industries where the primary production
processes are either continuous, or occur on a batch of materials that
is indistinguishable. For example, a food processing company making
sauce may make the sauce in a continuous, uninterrupted flow from
receipt of ingredients through packaging. Or batches may be produced
depending on the cook kettle sizes but immediately combined and
re-routed. In either case, there is no concept of a unit of sauce while
it is being processed. Examples of the process industries include food,
beverages, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, petroleum, ceramics, base metals,
coal, plastics, rubber, textiles, tobacco, wood and wood products, paper
and paper products, etc.

We encourage all presenters to submit a full length paper for the
conference proceedings. The papers should contain results that are
significant and have archival value to the industrial and systems
engineering research community; however, the papers are more limited in
scope and length than a full-length journal paper. Full papers have a
ten-page limit and will undergo a double-blind peer review process. All
accepted papers are indexed by ProQuest. Presentations without a paper
are acceptable, but will not be indexed in the conference proceedings.

There will be a 'Best Paper Award' and also a student paper competition.

The important deadlines for the conference are:

Abstract submissions: November 11, 2011
Notification: December 9, 2011
Submission of full papers (optional but encouraged): January 13, 2012
Notification of paper acceptance: February 24, 2012
Final version of full paper due: March 9, 2012
Presenting author registration deadline: April 1, 2012

If your abstract or paper is accepted: (a) you or a co-author must
register for the conference by April 1, 2012 (presentations/papers
without an author registered for the conference will be withdrawn from
the program and the proceedings); (b) you or a co-author must attend and
present the paper at the conference; and (c) we ask that you be ready to
serve as a reviewer for fellow authors and follow review deadlines.

There are also opportunities to organize invited sessions, panels, or
tutorials. In addition to research presentations, the annual conference
offers many opportunities for attendees, including the Applied Solutions
Conference program, plant tours, networking, and keynote speakers.

We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
