Ph.D. COLLOQUIUM and POSTER SESSION

Sponsored by the ACM-SIGSIM and INFORMS-Sim societies

Sunday, December 11, 2011
Submission Starts: July 1, 2011
Submission Deadline: September 20, 2011

The Ph.D. Colloquium & Poster Session at WSC'11 is an exciting opportunity
for Ph.D. students to present their work to the public.

Professor Richard Fujimoto from the Georgia Institute of Technology will
start the afternoon off with a discussion over lunch. Students close to
graduation (planning to graduate by Dec. 2012) will be given an opportunity
to showcase their work during a short presentation session. All Colloquium
students will then participate in the Poster Session.

Both ACM-SIGSIM and INFORMS-Sim provide a complimentary one-year membership
for all students participating in the colloquium.

For students close to graduation participating in both the presentation
session and the poster session, ACM-SIGSIM and INFORMS-Sim will reimburse
their conference registration fee and their lunch. Moreover, ACM-SIGSIM and
INFORMS-Sim will each award a Best Ph.D. Student Paper prize among those
final year students making a presentation at both the Ph.D. Colloquium and
the conference.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

Posters:
All colloquium submissions should include a brief (150-word maximum)
description of the research to be presented in the Poster Session along with
the names of your co-authors. A full-paper submission is not needed for
participating at the colloquium.

Poster preparation guidelines:
You will be provided a 4 feet high and 8 feet wide bulletin board. We
recommend that you use approximately 4 feet X 6 feet of space for your
display. There is no requirement that you fill the board. There is also no
requirement that you print a "real" poster - printed PowerPoint slides are
perfectly acceptable. Your poster should cover the main points of your work
and be as self-explanatory as possible.

Presentations:
Final year students who wish to take part in the presentation session should
have their thesis advisor send an email confirmation of the expected
graduation date to the Colloquium Chair (before September 20, 2011).

Best PhD Student Paper Award:

INFORMS-Sim and ACM-SIGSIM award two Best Student Paper prizes among
students close to graduation, and participating in the Ph.D. colloquium at
WSC 2011. There will be two winners, and each award includes a sum of $200.
To qualify, your full paper must be accepted or invited for presentation in
any of the regular conference sessions, and you must be the presenting
author. Co-authorship is allowed, but the student must be the primary
co-author (first author). Additionally, you must participate in both the
presentation session, and the poster session. This will facilitate the
judging process.
