Facility Logistics Research Paper Award

The Material Handling Industry of America is interested in recognizing
excellent material handling-related research papers published between
January 2008 and December 2009. For consideration of this award, we are
seeking nominations from active researchers and educators in the field
of material handling and facility logistics from engineering, business,
and other allied schools or colleges.
We are interested in groundbreaking papers in a broad sense on material
handling in the fields of manufacturing, distribution, warehousing,
supply chain, and logistics. Possible topics include but are not limited
to:
* Design of material handling equipment or systems for improved systems
performance;
* Ergonomic considerations in material handling;
* Warehouse improvement through more efficient design or operations;
* Improving the order fulfillment process;
* Improved understanding of the role material handling technologies or
processes in a larger business logistics or supply chain context.
A committee of academic and professional evaluators associated with the
Material Handling Industry of America will be used to select award
winners from the nominated papers.
The judges will evaluate the papers based on their success in meeting
one or more of the following criteria:
* Potential impact on the state-of-the-art of material handling
practice;
* Breakthrough advance in the state of knowledge;
* Innovation in research methodology;
* Novelty exhibited in the domain of application.
Papers published in scientific journals, proceedings of scientific
events (conferences, workshops, etc.) and as chapters of edited books
are eligible.
To nominate a paper for this award, nominators will provide an
electronic copy of the paper (PDF preferred) and no more than a one-page
summary of why the paper should be considered. The summary should state
how the nominated paper meets one or more of the above criteria. The
entire submission must be in English.
The winning paper and its author(s) will be recognized during the 2010
MHIA Annual Meetings in Indian Wells, CA. The lead author will be
invited to accept the award in person at our expense. Beyond the winning
papers, other top papers may also be recognized.
Past winners in 2006 and 2008 are recognized on the CICMHE website at:
http://www.mhia.org/industrygroups/cicmhe/researchaward.
Entries should be transmitted electronically to mogle at mhia.org by July
15th 2010. Any questions about the award process should be addressed to
