About the Department
Since 1983, the Department of Industrial Engineering offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees, as well as a new master's of engineering in capital projects supply chain.  With over a dozen faculty members, the Department serves a full-time student body of approximately 180 undergraduates, 35 MS students, and 30 doctoral students.  Our relatively small size fosters close collaboration between faculty and students both in the classroom and on cutting-edge research.

Research Areas
The IE Department is seeking applicants for doctoral level graduate research assistantships in the areas of

 *   Supply chain, optimization, and logistics
 *   Human factors and safety
 *   Education and learning systems
Specific application focus areas include healthcare, transportation, and manufacturing, with external funding success within each area. Current research assistants are funded by the FAA, NASA, NSF, National Academy of Sciences, the Center for Engineering Logistics and Distribution (CELDi) - an NSF Industry/University Cooperative Research Center, Health Sciences South Carolina, and the James E. Clyburn University Transportation Center. Many active research projects are underway with industry clients, such as BMW, Cannon Memorial, Greenville Hospital System, Lockheed Martin, Norfolk Southern, and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System,

Financial Aid
Graduate Assistantships are available for highly capable students with BS and MS degrees in industrial engineering and related fields.  Positions are offered for one-year terms, renewable based on performance for half-time (20 hours per week) appointments.  Superior applicants may be considered for supplemental fellowships.

Applications
All applications are made through the Graduate School and applicants are strongly advised to apply for entrance in the fall semester.  The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required of all applicants and international students must submit scores for the TOEFL as well.  Applicants seeking appointment as graduate assistants should apply by December 15 for the following fall semester.
