ASEE National Engineering Economy Teaching Award
The ASEE National Engineering Economy Teaching Award Committee Is pleased to
invite nominations for this new and prestigious award. The award consists
of a $10,000 honorarium, and appropriately inscribed plaque, and a $1,000
stipend to assist the award recipient in travel costs to attend the ASEE
Annual Conference where the award will be presented. This award is made
possible by a generous endowment from Don Newnan. Nominees do not need to
be members of ASEE or its Engineering Economy Division. Self-initiated
nominations are encouraged.
Nomination Process
Nominations consist of a C.V., a maximum of eight letters in support of the
nomination, at least two of which must be from former students, and a
candidate statement no more than five pages in length. These materials
should be directed to showing how the candidate meets the criteria of the
award as indicated below. They should be submitted as Word or PDF
attachments to email sent to the Chair of the Award Committee, Robert
Lundquist, at lundquist.1 at osu.edu. Nominations must be completed on or
before March 10, 2010, to be considered for an award at next year's
conference.
Qualifications
Those eligible to receive the award are, or have been, full-time engineering
teachers who have taught engineering economy courses in an ABET or CEAB
accredited engineering or engineering technology curriculum. They may be
current or emeritus faculty members who have taught engineering economy
frequently for a substantial period of time.
Classroom Performance
1. Possess and be able to communicate broad and accurate knowledge
of engineering economy to students.
2. Show evidence of outstanding classroom performance using regular
evaluations by students and by faculty. If relevant, other measures of
classroom performance may also be included.
3. Possess a sense of proportion, stressing fundamentals and basic
underlying truths.
4. Prepare assignments that challenge students, demanding thinking
and learning.
5. Demonstrate an intense interest and enthusiasm in engineering
economy and enhance the learning process through real-life examples and
illustrations to fully motivate students.
6. Nominee's efforts have increased awareness and extended the reach
of engineering economy concepts into the broader engineering curriculum.
7. Nominee has a long and distinguished record of teaching
effectiveness for at least a decade.
Teaching Scholarship Contributions
1. Demonstrate effectiveness in course and/or curriculum
development.
2. Development or authorship of instructional material or a text
that enhances the student learning process and has impact beyond the
classroom. Those eligible to receive the award are, or have been, full-time
engineering teachers who have taught engineering economy courses in an ABET
or CEAB accredited engineering or engineering technology curriculum. They
may be current or emeritus faculty members who have taught engineering
economy frequently for a substantial period of time.
