Healthcare Logistics
Department of Industrial Engineering
University of Arkansas
The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville is currently seeking one post doctoral research fellow to work with the University's new Center for Innovation in Healthcare Logistics (CIHL) on projects related to the Center's mission to develop and foster adoption of innovations that cost-effectively put the right materials in the hands of caregivers when and where they are needed. This postdoc will conduct Center research, help supervise graduate research assistants, and author reports, papers and proposals for outside funding.
The position is available immediately, and will remain open until filled. The period of appointment is negotiable, but should be at least two years. Salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Successful candidates should hold or be in the final stages of a Ph.D. in industrial engineering or a related field. Research or other background in healthcare systems engineering is strongly preferred, although experience in other areas of logistics and supply chains is also relevant.
ClHL, which began operations in May 2007 and has sustaining funding for at least five years totaling over $3 million, is a collaboration among researchers at the University of Arkansas's flagship campus in Fayetteville, healthcare provider organizations, and industrial sponsors including Wal-Mart, regional Blue Cross Blue Shields, the VHA Inc. cooperative that helps hospitals nationwide improve supply chain performance, Procter and Gamble, IBM, the AHRMM association of healthcare resource and materials managers, and the Strategic Marketplace Institute. The Center is housed on the University campus with Dr. Ronald Rardin, John and Mary Lib White Distinguished Professor of Industrial Engineering, as its Director, and Dr. Russell D. Meller, Hefley Professor of Logistics and Entrepreneurship in Industrial Engineering, as Deputy Director. Faculty associates and graduate assistants are drawn from across the Colleges of Engineering and Business.
The University of Arkansas at Fayetteville is a nationally-competitive, student-centered research institution serving Arkansas and the world. The University is located in Northwest Arkansas, one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, with a population of over 300,000. It features good highway and commercial air access, plus nearby mountain and lake recreation. According to Sperling's Best Places 2007, Northwest Arkansas was ranked number one in terms of "top-10 affordable job powerhouses."
Applicants should provide electronically a letter of interest, a curriculum vita and a list of references. Please address the appropriate material and inquiries to:
