Dear colleagues:

The Toyota Production System aka Lean ought to be an inspiration to any
Industrial Engineer to re-learn and re-master their profession. That being
said, Lean is definitely not something that any thinking Industrial Engineer
could not understand and improve/customize for environments other than
high-volume assembly lines! Since 1999, here at Ohio State, we have pursued
research and developed an educational curriculum for deployment of Lean in
high-mix low-volume environments (JobshopLean). Therefore, I am pleased to
announce the availability of a DVD that an OSU graduate student, Bryan Wang,
has produced which describes his JobshopLean internship at Bula Forge &
Machine Inc., a custom forge shop located in Cleveland, OH. The DVD is based
on interviews with a team of managers who dedicated much time to work with
him to implement the ideas and recommendations for improvements that came up
during the project. From this video, you will learn about their first-hand
experiences, including their initial reactions to Lean, the results and
benefits they achieved and the challenges that they faced. You will learn
about the overlaps and differences between ToyotaLean and JobshopLean, and
about "A Quick-Start Approach for JobshopLean", an affordable and customized
approach for implementing Lean in high-mix low-volume facilities, that has
been developed at Ohio State.

In addition, Bryan will be presenting more details about the work that he
did during this internship at the JobshopLean2007 Conference on December
11-13.

The cost of this DVD is minimal --- $15! All proceeds from the sales of this
DVD, and another video based on our work at PR Machine Works, Inc., will be
donated to the Alpha Pi Mu Scholarship Fund for Honors students pursuing a
BS degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering in the Department of
Industrial, Welding and Systems Engineering at The Ohio State University.

I would welcome your comments on our work. In fact, if you are interested,
Bryan and I are willing to assist you to replicate the same work at any
other company.

Thank you.
