OK guys,
This is your absolute last chance get get assistance from CBS for BMES
1. Please let me know know is going.
2. Let me know if you are presenting or not.
2. Let me know if you are being funded by your professor or if you need
assistance from CBS (and if you need assistance, let me know if you are
being partially funded or not funded at all)
3. Let me know if you already have a room reserved, and if so, now many
roommates you need or want.
4. Let me know if you would like to go on a group flight or have made other
arrangemnets

Subject: [Bme-student] Supplemental info for BMES-please read ASAP!!! Let me
know by Friday, August 10th
Message-ID: <1f6db5f50708061124l790efdeft21b47db9792a79fa@mail.gmail.com>
Sorry guys, I didn't mean to send out the last email without proofreading
and checking spelling.
But, I have called the top hotels and the group rate rooms are already gone
(prices for group rates would have been:$189.00 for single, $199.00 for
double, $219 for triple and $239.00 for quad rooms)
As it stands now, in the hotel where the conference is(The Renaissance
Hollywood Hotel ), the rate per night
is a flat rate of $339.00, no matter now many people in the room, which
comes out to ~ 85.00 per night per person for 4 people in a room. Since
Aditee and I are the only girls who have responded, we both said we wouldn't
mind rooming with guys, so that cuts down on additional room costs(if any
guys don't mind 2 girls with them, please let me know). So, I was going to
reserve 3 rooms @ the Renaissance (so these wouldn't be CBS only rooms). The
cost per person, as I said, would be ~85.00/night, for a total of $255 for 3
nights per person, if 4 people per room, and as it stands, there are 12
people who have responded who are definitely going, which are:
1. Betsy Tedder
2. Changhong Zhang
3. Lee Sierad
4. Aditee Kurane
5. Jai Kutty
6. Kirk Pirlo
7. Tripp Mostertz
8. Tom Chuang
9. Dev Raghavan
10. Xiaofeng Cui
11. Honghai Liu
12. Scott Maxson
So, that could be 4 people per room for 3 rooms for 3 nights (Wed,Thurs,Fri,
come back Sat). Once we know who is rooming with who, since there are so few
of us, we can figure out who in each room we will transfer room reservations
and credit card responsibilities to (I'll take responsibility for the room
I'm in). This means that there is not going to be exclusively funded CBS
rooms, but we will look at the feasibility of funding individuals in any of
these 3 rooms(as I said before, if you have already made reservations and
need roommates, please let me know ASAP, as the amount that each individual
in that room is responsible for may be less than $85, as different rates may
apply). If you would like to be in one of these rooms(whether or not you are
expecting CBS funding or not), PLEASE let me know by Friday, August 10th so
I have a number in each room.
Once room arrangements are made, we will discuss the flight(I'm not really
sure now CBS wants to handle that situation now).
Lets get over one hurdle at a time though.
I hope this has not been too confusing, so please feel free to e-mail me
with any questions or concerns. We are just trying to be as time and
economically efficient as possible by trying to make group accommodation
arrangements.

Message-ID: <1f6db5f50708070947u4e61ba2doa6e7119658c111dd@mail.gmail.com>
OK guys,
So, after calling all hotels again, the Hollywood Roosevelt
Hotel(which is ~.3 miles from the
conference hotel,
i.e. right around the corner) did have discount rooms remaining for 179.00 a
night (~$45 a night if 4 people in a room), each having 2 queen beds and a
couch, so I reserved 3 rooms there, and Kirk has 3 available spots in his
room @ the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel
Several people had expressed interest in staying Sat night also (I know that
some people have posters on Sat afternoon, so they really need to be there
Sat afternoon). So, I can call back and reserve the rooms for another night,
but they will not be at the discounted rates(reg rate ~$300/night). We are
going to try to find the best flight deals to possibly offset the costs of
staying an extra day.
I also encourage everyone, if you have not already done so, to become a
student member of BMES and you will receive a discounted rate for
registration (student member registration fees are $200).
So, if you haven't let me know in an e-mail by Fri., 10th (even if you
responded to the initial email a couple of weeks ago I must hear definitive
plans and answers to the questions posted in the emails yesterday(Mon 6th)),
you will not be included in these room reservations, group plane
accommodations, or financial support considerations that CBS can offer.
By the end of this week or the beginning of next (after Fri, so everyone has
had an opportunity to respond to the Fri deadline), CBS should be able to
let everyone know now much funding it can contribute. This is a much more
expensive conference than SFB, so I can almost guarentee that we can not
provide complete funding to any one person, so I encourage everyone to look
at the Travel Award opportunitites available on the BMES conference website
(http://bme.usc.edu/bmes2007/events.html) and any other available funding
means seperate to CBS.

To: Betsy Tedder
A better PC has been installed in Rhodes 516. This PC is the property of the
Metters group and does not belong to either CBS or the Bioe Department. Here
are a few things to remember while using the PC.
1. *DO NOT* log out of Windows or shut down the PC. Just keep using the PC
as it is.
3. In case of any problems, meet or contact Nihar.
2. Novell Netware will *not be installed* at the moment as it drastically
slows down the PC. You will either have to use an external storage drive, or
access your U Drive through MyCLE.
3. The printer has been setup and is printing fine.
4. All *required and common softwares and browser plugins have been
installed *for things to work smoothly. However, if you need any special
software to be installed, let Nihar know.
4. Any *files you have created *and/or they belong to you, make sure
you *delete
them*..
5. Any *unnecessary files will be deleted* at any time to maintain the
performance of the PC, so *copy whatever you need *as soon as you are done
using the PC.
6. *DO NOT* delete any other files from anywhere on the hard disk or the
desktop.
Thats all for now..
Happy computing!!

Subject: [Bme-student] BMES Last Call - MUST RESPOND for CBS
Message-ID: <1f6db5f50708090919s79230753x78160108231ab80c@mail.gmail.com>
OK guys,
This is the last time I am going to send out an email asking who is
interested in attending BMES with CBS support. The people who have responded
thus far are:
1. Betsy Tedder
2. Kirk Pirlo
3. Jai Kutty
4. Aditee Kurane
5. Tom Chuang
6. Lee Sierad
7. Tripp Mostertz
8. Erin Pardue
9. Changhong Zhang
10. Honghai Liu
11. Dev Raghavan
If your name is not on this list and you would like to be considered for CBS
funding or a CBS organized room or flight, you MUST let me know by FRIDAY,
AUGUST 10th by 5pm.
I have to set this deadline so we can go ahead and make flight arrangements.
As I have said before, this is a much more expensive conference than SFB. We
have calculated that, conservatively, it will cost ~$710 to attend the
conference per person (that includes registration, hotel for 4 nights
(Wed-Sat) and flight). We have a very limited budget (as it is the beginning
of the year and we have not had fundraisers, and the student government will
not approve the budget for this year until the 1st meeting (which will be
mid Sep.), so we do not know how much we will get from them). We will
definitely not be able to completely fund everyone and will not be able to
offer the amount of funding that will cover complete costs for those
students presenting that do not have funding from their advisors . If you
are presenting, please talk to your advisor about funding before you ask
assistance from CBS. They are aware that it is their responsibility to
provide funding if they encourage their students to submit abstracts. As I
stated before, there are travel awards offered by BMES (
http://bme.usc.edu/bmes2007/events.html) and volunteer opportunities
arranged at BMES that provide reduced registration fees (
http://bme.usc.edu/bmes2007/volunteer.html). There are also travel awards
from the University that you can apply for. By early next week, we will be
able to tell everyone now much CBS can contribute.
We would like to be able to fund everyone who wants to attend, but it is
just not financially possible. We will do what we can with the financial
resources we have at this moment.

Message-ID: <1f6db5f50708281217g693e21d3t64eb51e73727bdd7@mail.gmail.com>
I had ordered a box from HP to send my old HP cartridge for recycling.
However, the box that they sent me is humongous, so there is no point me
sending the box with only one cartridge.
If you have any old HP laser cartridges that need to be recycled, please
drop any cartridges on my desk in 516.
*Remember, only HP original (OEM) Laser cartridges. InkJet or some other
branded cartridges cannot be sent.*
Thanks
