Dear BGs,
I'm writing on behalf of the Clemson University Department of Sociology and Anthropology.  Given your interactions with students interested in health, the environment, social justice and related issues, I would like to invite you to share the attached flyer with interested students and colleagues regarding our upcoming Environmental Justice Symposium, Friday, April 15, 2016.  The event will be held on campus at the Self Auditorium, Strom Thurmond Institute, starting at 1:00PM.  It will include a keynote address and a respondent panel, including several environmental advocates from organizations such as the Sierra Club and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  The keynote speaker is Aaron Mair, president and chair of the national Sierra Club Board of Directors.  Mr. Mair is an epidemiological-spatial analyst and his talk will focus on the importance of "putting people before things." Mr. Mair will highlight his role as advocate for cultural diversity and discuss environmental issues confronting communities in the 21st century.  In light of recent, local environmental issues (i.e., a proposed coal ash landfill in Pickens County and harmful discharge from a Horsehead zinc plant in Rutherford County, NC), we hope to attract a broad, cross-section of the Clemson University community and beyond.  The event is free and open to the public.
