Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Attached for distribution are a scholarship application and instructions for the Dr. Charles T. Battle Scholarship.  To encourage high scholarship among youth in the upstate counties, the Anderson alumni chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., established the scholarship to honor the life and legacy of the late Dr. Charles T. Battle, who lived and practiced in Seneca, and whose contributions to this community are universally hailed as exemplary.  Dr. Battle was the first African American admitted to the staff of the Oconee Memorial Hospital in 1956 and was named staff emeritus in January 1997. Among his honors and recognition is the Order of the Palmetto, bestowed by Governor David Beasley. Dr. Battle died in 1998 at the age of 79.

The Dr. C. T. Battle Scholarship is open to students in Abbeville, Anderson, Greenwood, Oconee, and Pickens counties.
