Colleagues,

Please consider sending a note by e mail to our senators. It is very easy
to do by clicking below on their addresses. Takes all of 5 minutes.
Following is copy of the message that I sent:

Please vote to extend unemployment benefits. We have two university educated
sons, nearing age 50 -- both CA residents -- caught in the unemployed ranks.
Neither fits the welfare-dependent lore now in vogue. And I know a number of
my former students who are also caught in this dilemma.

Thank you for your service and for considering my appeal.

Sincerely

Harold E. Cheatham

Best regards,

Subject: Vote in Senate on Unemployment Benefits extension is 2:30 tomorrow.

Dear Friends:

I'm borrowing John's email address to pass on an important request:

Tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. the Senate will again vote to extend unemployment
benefits. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that Senator Graham and Senator DeMint
hear from each and every one of us asking them to vote to extend these
vitally needed benefits. There are many of us (including myself and John,
his brother, my friend Lisa, and so many more) who are unemployed, who's
benefit have either already run out or are getting ready to run out, and who
are facing homelessness, despair, and loss of hope. Local philanthropic
organizations are WAY overwhelmed with requests from families in need of
food, shelter, money to pay rent or house payments, to pay utility bills,
and in our state alone EVERY DAY FIVE FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN BECOME HOMELESS
DUE TO UNEMPLOYMENT. This is unacceptable. Anyone who thinks that people
are sitting at home on their butts to collect less than $300 a week rather
than look for a job is CRAZY.

Please, just call. It only takes a minute. You don't have to make a big
speech. They will ask for your name, or if you get voice mail, you should
leave your name, and all you have to say is "Please ask the Senator to vote
to extend unemployment benefits. Our state desperately needs this." You
don't have to argue, have a conversation, or even defend your request. They
will thank you for your call and pass on the request along with all of the
others they receive to the Senators. But if the overwhelming majority of
calls coming in are to pass this legislation, that will definitely make the
Senators think about their vote.

Just can't face calling? That's fine too. You can email. Unfortunately
you can't send snail mail because there's not enough time. You can send
DeMint a fax. Just do something. Suicide numbers have jumped significantly
in the last couple of months nationwide, and one reason cited is the
Congress lack of action in regards to this matter.

_betwe.html) This is so important, we need EVERYONE, no matter your politics
to get involved.

I have called and spoken with someone at both offices today, and both told
me they have received a great many calls today. If you call and it's busy,
please keep calling. If you do reach someone and you are unemployed or have
unemployed in your family, tell them. Tell them how this legislation
affects you and those you care about.

And last but not least, please share this email with others.

Thank you for all your help.
